Sinharaja Rain Forest Adventures
Exploring a tropical rain forest is
a unique feeling which you can have in your life time. Sinharaja Forest
Reserve a UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the border is in Rathnapura District which is in
percentage 60%.The other borders are laid in Galle District with 20% and
Kalutara District with 20%.The visitors to the forest could encounter
many life forms, both flora and fauna, in this forest. They are all
free for you to observe, but it is better to keep in mind not to harm or
disturb them. In this hike you will be able to observe and photograph the
rarest flora and fauna and endemic species of birds and reptiles.
Elephants and leopards can be found in this jungle, as well as the
purple-faced langur monkey that has been a subject of fascination for years. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20
rainforest species can be found in Sinharaja including the elusive Red-faced
Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie.
December to April, July and August are the best months to visit
Sinharaja as there is less rain during these months. Visitors should avoid monsoon
months because the severe weather is not good for the jungle trails. This world
heritage site is a major eco-tourism destination in Sri Lanka.
